I hear there are some of you out there who still don't know what Gears of War is. Where have you been for the past two years, people? Ah well. Get a crash primer for this beautifully designed, addictively immersive game here and don't feel left out. The sequel game is on sale from November 7, so amp yourself up with Joshua Ortega's Gears comic (he also wrote Gears 2, remember) and this first novel during October while you're waiting for the game.

If you're someone who dismisses games completely as a fiction experience - well, suspend your prejudice for a while and try it. Games like Gears are the new face of storytelling. The Gears universe upended me completely, and I'm a cynical old ratbag who takes some heavy-duty impressing.
Just do it, okay? Because I asked you nicely. And because I know some big guys with chainsaw rifles. Don't make me send Baird over to persuade you.
