Yes, I was the lead writer on Gears of War 3. That pretty much says it all.
I love writing games, and I believe games are the future of fiction. It may horrify you to hear this from a novelist, but I'd rather be writing games or comics than books, but novels are my core income, so I have to do a balancing act. If they weren't, I'd do pretty well nothing but games work (and my beloved comics,of course) and cut back on the novels. Games are big, all-consuming projects if you do the whole writing shebang rather than just doing individual components like concepts or script polishes, but it's the complete involvement and their vast potential that makes them so satisfying.
Anyway, even if you're not a gamer and you think it's all blood and grunting, take a look at Gears of War 3. It really does have a story, the cinematics are world class, there's real acting from the voice talent, and I worked my guts out on it. So don't let my efforts be in vain. You will play, and you will love it. It's a very special IP that'll always be the best project I've worked on and I'm genuinely proud to have been part of it.
